I don’t know which was the exact moment that last week’s “Stache Bash” tipped from “fun time” to “legendary evening of debauchery.” It could have been when one of the growers dipped his ‘stache in Guinness Foam then eskimo-kissed mine. Or when another posing as my “drunk uncle Larry” harangued me for a solid two sloppy minutes (he was acting, he later told me) about what I was like as a boy. Or when another contestant posing as “Miss Teen South Carolina” appeared in her third costume of the evening – a black bikini – then challenged any grower who’d have her to a mustache tug of war. There were too many moments to choose from, but let’s just say the damage was done: $60,000 raised for DonorsChoose.org, more than 21,00 Bay Area students reached, and countless memories courtesy of a dozen plus incredibly kind-hearted and hilarious dudes who’ve forked over their face space for 5 weeks in late Autumn to give to a more than worthy cause. We’re proud of the men of M4KSF, and hope you are too.

Christa will be at the ‘Stache Bash at the Rickshaw Stop selling her buttery, bountiful, beguiling treats – with ALL PROCEEDS going to DonorsChoose.org. That’s what we call sweet. There you have it: another awesome reason to come to the Big Show. Nothing goes better with a pint full o’ Guiness than a peanut butter cup sandwich.

In theory, it’s a simple physical challenge: dunk your upper lip in a foamy head of fresh, rich Guinness ale, to the point of maximum coverage, draw the glass away, and show your face to the crowd.

Yet, the M4K Guinness Foam Retention Challenge has been a hurdle for some growers in past ‘Stache Bashes, while for others it’s been a thorn in their ‘stache – derailing their hopes for mustache glory and ending their evenings prematurely.

Come to applaud the growers, stay for the mustache feats of strength, ridiculous outfits, outrageous pageantry, pick-up lines, good-humored trash talk, glorious displays of macho bravado, and umpteen surprises. This is the moment the gentlemen who’ve been raising the money for the kids and schools affiliated with DonorsChoose.org have been working toward. The entry fee is $10-$20 sliding scale. But what you’ll get out of it is priceless.

Mustaches for Kids San Francisco will be having its anual Mustaches On Ice evening tomorrow Tuesday, November 29, from 7:30ish til 9:30. It’s a festive if not manly evening on the Ice!  Be there.

WHERE: Union Square, San Francisco

WHEN: Tuesday, Nov 29, from 7:45pm to 9:30pm

WHY: Mustaches, Ice, Holiday Cheer.

The growers will be taking half hour turns on the decks, and the whole evening will be a fundraiser for Mustaches for Kids. It’s a good way to spread some early holiday cheer and burn some calories before next Thursday’s turkey fest.
